Trust schools to enhance Malaysian education internationally

JOHOR BARU: Some 120 teachers from 24 schools in Johor, Kelantan and Selangor took part in the Johor Trust School Conference 2018 in M Suites Hotel here in an effort to transform the learning experience in schools.

The Trust School programme is part of the National Education Blueprint released in 2013 to lift up schools in Malaysia into the top third of the international benchmark in 15 years.

Education service provider LeapEd Services Sdn Bhd (LeapEd) is the adviser of Johor trust schools, and the design and implementation partner of Yayasan Amir Trust School Programme.

LeapEd managing director Shahnaz Al-Sadat Abdul Mohsein said the conferences aim to transform the classroom experience.

“We want to transform the learning experience for students here by providing teachers with training that focuses on student-centric ways of teaching rather than the traditional academic method.

“Trust schools are government schools jointly managed with private partners under the Education Ministry.

“The Trust School Programme was conceptualised in 2009 while implementation started in 2011.

“Today, we have 83 trust schools across 10 states in Malaysia under Yayasan Amir,” she said after the closing ceremony of the conference here.

LeapEd senior education leader Ian Mackenzie said the teaching method introduced in trust schools focused on students learning rather than teachers teaching, which is a big difference in the education system.

The three-day conference was organised by Sekolah Menengah Pasir Gudang 3 in collaboration with the Education Department and district Education Office with M Suites Hotel as the main sponsor.

M Suites Hotel Johor Baru executive director Datin Dr Maimunah Abdul Rahman also presented a TED talk session during the conference.

“I am very passionate about education, especially when it comes to teaching English and I believe that with proper guidance as well as assistance, students can go far in the corporate world.

“This is the second time M Suites Hotel Johor Baru is sponsoring the Trust School Conference and we are looking forward to sponsor more of such education oriented programmes as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility,” she said. – By Venesa Devi
